The Hospital of the Holy Spirit Foundation

The maintenance and care of our historical building fabric and the related concern to use it appropriate to the time are important jobs for our city. Lübeck has a unique inventory of medieval and early modern buildings of historic importance and buildings that not only represent the charm of the Hanseatic city but are also open for contemporary use.

A particularly successful example is the Hospital of the Holy Spirit on Koberg. Many parts of this important architectural monument of North German Brick Gothic are used today for its original purpose, namely to help elder fellow citizens and support them.

This takes place under improved modern conditions thanks to the Hospital of the Holy Spirit Foundation with its financial capabilities. The whole site on Koberg is an example of how modern life within medieval walls is reasonable, pleasant and possible without foregoing the achievements of our time.
